I blame multiculturalism

In an attempt to get festive, I went to Hovisville University's annual Christmas carol service.

As well as the usual suspects sung in the usual fashion, we were treated to the spectacle of six Chinese girls dressed in identical red costumes lining up behind each other on stage, waving their arms above their heads and wailing along to what can only be described as the Mandarin version of Richard Clayderman. And when I say girls, I mean postgraduate students.

There were readings in Portugese, songs in Czech and, best of all, an African gospel choir accompanied by a drummer and guitarist who drifted off into an extended prog-rock odyssey during verse two.

At the end, lebkuchen were served.
