I’ve told you before about my talented and wonderful friend Che. She’s good at playing piano, good at being devious and mischievous and, so she’s just discovered, good at growing herbs on her balcony in Prague. She’s also good at writing poems about growing herbs on her balcony in Prague (though her cavalier approach to capitalization leaves something to be desired);
and it's quite surprising
how soon it'll be
that i offer thee
spag bog with oregano straight off the balcony
there are green things maturing
and it's reassuring
that within reach will be
for you and me
calabrese salad with basil straight off the balcony
there are green things expanding
and it's rather glad'ning
that i can prepare
without a care
a big bowl with rocket straight off the balcony
there are green things growing
and it's nice knowing
that one day
i'll say
fancy a mojito with mint straight off the balcony?
Please direct book deals, cash prizes and offers of rumpy pumpy for Che to me here at Timorous Beastie.

Cheerful. :-) I recently made a pie with lots of mint and spinach... I had to get fresh mint, and had a choice between butchering a small mint plant or buying a pack of fresh cut. I opted for the fresh cut, though slightly wilted... I felt worse than when buying meat!
I know what you mean, Diddums - I'd worry about lopping off bits of plants too. A pie with mint and spinach does sound delicious, though.
I think the idea is that you wait for the mint plant to be big so that it doesn't feel like butchering but merely relieving the thing of a bit of extra unneeded foliage.
Anyway, I had to thin the mint and oregano yesterday which required murdering about 80% of the seedlings in a survival of the fittest massacre. Talk about traumatic!
oh, and for the record, capitalsation curbs creativity
and finally, make sure all those rumpy pumpy offers get forwarded
I always thought pies were sweet... you know... apple pie, pear pie.... Am I missing out on something?
Che, you have my word; all offers shall be forwarded. And capitalization is the last bastion of civilization in a world of text-speak and erroneous spelling.
Pix, yeah pies in the UK are often of the savoury variety: chicken and mushroom, cheese n onion, mince etc. A word of warning: do not eat anything called a "Scotch pie".
I have something here called The Pie Book... it has savoury pies, fish pies, sweet pies... the idea is for me to try them all, but I forgot to take it with me to the supermarket yesterday. :-( The next one is to be a minced venison effort!
